it’s all “accidental hand touch” this and “brief longing gaze” that, where’s my support at for “reaching up and fixing someone’s collar for them” crew??

the intimacy disguised as helpfulness! the lingering contact! the optional subdued “you look nice” as they stand too close!!

expand your pining vocabulary people

Some of my favorite pining/love languages I wish people would use instead of “longing gazes” and “brief touches that make his heart race”:

• bringing food / coffee, unprompted (bonus: remembering how the other prefers their order be made despite never being directly told, they just remember)

• pep talks. “Hey, you’ve got this.” “You’re gonna knock it out of the park.” “Come on, you’re the best person for this job, are you kidding?” “I’m rooting for you.” “Don’t sell yourself short, you’re incredible.”

• making each other laugh, especially in times where one might need it most; not all pining needs to be serious all the time. smiling and laughter is so sexy, and so intimate. joke around, goof off, have them do the stupidest thing in the world just for shits and giggles, just because they can

• car rides. “do you need a ride?” “You can come, if you’d like.” “I’m heading that way anyway.” “I can show you around town.” I mean, come on, do I even need to explain why this one is good?

• gonna 100% double down on clothing. fixing collars, ties, sleeve cuffs. straightening wrinkles. dusting them off. helping them wipe/clean a stain. handing them their hat/coat. leveling a name tag. offering a napkin so they can clean their glasses.

• teaching them something / learning together. a fact about space. a fact about themselves. a place they’ve never seen. a skill like cooking, driving stick shift, playing an instrument. a book they’ve never read. watching a movie they didn’t know existed.

  • The thing where someone tucks in the tag at the back of someone else’s shirt and gives the spot a little pat-pat as if to settle the tag. Which is totally unnecessary, and one pat would do anyway, but they do a second one because they just needed one more moment of contact.

I was thinking about how Miles gets knocked out in Act 3 and I was wondering why he didn’t Spidey-Sense™️ the hell out of that hit and I realized he **couldnt** cause ostensibly it’s HIM. He’s under attack from him and his spidey powers don’t know how to deal with that.

So I’m so excited to see how that manifests when/if they fight in Beyond the Spiderverse.

in my mind, emily is on critical role cause brennan was telling matt “no you don’t understand, she’s amazing. she’s great with the narrative and at combat. she’s brilliant. she’s ruined my life on several occasions. you’ve gotta get her on your show man”

HOW IS THIS THE CHARACTER WITH THE LOWEST CHARISMA

me as a writer: Oh no I can’t write that, somebody else already has

me as a reader: hell yes give me all the fics about this one scenario. The more the merrier

This one is so hard to accept. Reblogging to knock that into my brain.

Me as a writer: I feel like I’m repeating myself, I’ve already used that theme, I’ve already written that kink, that other character uses that speech pattern so this one in another fandom can’t, I feel like I’m writing predictable things, is this different enough from that other thing I wrote, are people filling out bingo cards by my work? :sobbing:

Me as a reader: oh hell yeah this hit the spot exactly, I hope this writer has written 20 more just like it

As one friend said when I felt I was reusing a theme too much, nobody ever says, Did Agatha Christie write about murder again?

I actually laughed out loud at the last one. A very good point.

“I love this, I hope there isn’t anything else out there like it!” Said no one ever

Gotta tattoo this on my brain
